FACTS |
The
reasons for trafficking are multifaceted and multidimensional.
The causes are:
* Poverty
* Kidnapping
* Fake Marriages
* Prostitution
* Displacement
* Cheap & Bonded Labour
* Formal & Informal Industries
Apart from these reasons,
there is rationale for this lack of seriousness in the
law enforcement machinery and administration - risks,
inadequate awareness, deficient infrastructure, lack
of coordination, lack of support lines and drop in centres
for the rehabilitated, etc.

A
study by the Central Social Welfare Board in six metropolises
revealed the following estimated figures:
* 30% of the prostitutes are
below 18 years of age
* 70% of them are illiterate
* 43% of them want to be rescued
* The persons who are in
this profession have to stay because of absence of alternative
sources of income, social non-acceptability, family
customs, poverty, etc.
